Euro area exporters have been going through a difficult period since the pandemic and have lost competitiveness in global trade. Over the past two decades, the euro area has experienced a gradual decline in its market share in global trade. This downward trend is not unique to the euro area: other advanced economies have also been losing market shares as emerging economies become more integrated in global trade.
